    BB code is On. I have a friend who has a garage that specializes in Subarus, we have worked together in a few dealerships also. These two halves must seal to one another and act as one piece, or the engine will fail. If you decide to have the repair done as opposed to getting a new vehicle, it's best to let a professional mechanic.

    Post your wagon build in the FAQ! To start off, I want to thank all of you who helped me out with my last post here months ago. As you can tell from the flair, I've recently found an Outback very similar and did end up buying it. Now I've come for some guidance, as I seem to be having a pretty rare problem with the H6. I had scoped out a Subaru with the H6 for the sole purpose of avoiding head gasket issues, but here's the story anyways. I noticed weeks ago after a 30 minute or so drive that my coolant reservoir was overflowing.

    Temp was at a little less than half the entire ride, so it wasn't overheating but I knew something wasn't right. Upon further inspection, I found that there were a decent supply of bubbles coming up through the coolant. After some Google searches, I think my problem's symptoms seem to correlate with a blown head gasket. As far as I can tell, it's just compression gases escaping into the coolant and not coolant into oil or oil into coolant. Other than the bubbles in the reservoir, you would have no idea there was an issue.

    However, just today as I was going up a hill the heat gauge started to climb in temp. I switched on the heater, which only made it go down for a just little bit. It was a series of pulling over and letting it cool off before I was able to safely park it. I never let it get past the last notch right before red, and wasn't about to peg out the gauge and just do more damage.

    Tomorrow I'm going to change the thermostat and the coolant, which should have been done sooner but no better time than the present I suppose. Not sure how much this will change, but I'm hoping it can bide me some time. If this doesn't fix it I'm going to get a compression test done on it, so see if one of the cylinders isn't up to spec. What should I check for instead of what I've already done, and should I be looking for a different solution to this than replacing the head gaskets?

    I'm really hoping it's the intake gasket because that would be a much easier job than doing the heads. If any of you guys know how I could prolong or fix this problem it'd be much appreciated. Pics of the lady http: Okay, so I expected as much. Still overheating, spraying coolant out of the overflow on trips longer than 30 minutes, and overheating on hills.

    I haven't let it get up into the red, since the motor is likely still salvageable but we're going to get a compression test done on it this week. I can already feel my wallet dying. Was driven hard, 5,RPM for about minutes. Hasn't overheated at all, stays a bit below Misfires on cylinders 2, 3, and 6.

    We'll get an accurate diagnosis later on in the week. The day's not over yet, we still have to drive it up a series of sizable hills so still holding out luck for it in the meantime. Didn't drive it up any hills, testing still needed.

    My EJ22 had blown headgaskets. I didn't know because of how the closed deck system works. In non-closed deck engines, when there's a headgasket failure, you normally see coolant in the oil. On my EJ22 I would get the bubbling when I looked at it, but it would only overheat when completely stopped. Temps were normal at freeway speed but as soon as I stopped the temp would skyrocket. I'd always check the overflow and it was always over flow.
