Used Suzuki Esteem for Sale 3. Track Price Check Availability. Salt Lake City, UT. Suzuki Esteem Buyer's Guide. At , miles, it likes to stall at stoplights if I hit the brakes too hard. The driver window roller broke off because of shoddy plastic. The cheap, hard plastic dash is starting to crack. The dome light draws power from the battery, even when the car is powered off. I had to pull the fuse, and the check engine light is now on al I had to pull the fuse, and the check engine light is now on all the time as a result.

The center console hood broke off. The hood release switch next to the driver door doesn't always release the hood, so you have to go back and forth between the interior and the exterior of the car wiggling the hood and the release lever until the hood opens. I had to replace the failing radiator. It's quite incredible how cheaply they built this car and still make it actually go down the road under its own volition.

Then buy a Toyota. It really makes all the difference. It certainly wasn't fun, but it was memorable! Driving to my dad's house, the battery was completely dead due to aforementioned dome light battery drain issue.

I started the car with a battery booster, but there was heavy highway traffic, and the car wanted to stall every time traffic stopped. I had to shift into neutral and keep engine revs up to keep it from stalling in an automatic, mind y I had to shift into neutral and keep engine revs up to keep it from stalling in an automatic, mind you , and after probably 15 minutes of this, the engine stalled anyway.

I managed to coast it to the shoulder, called my dad, and told him I was fed up and wouldn't make it, went home, and called it a night. It can drive the car with a dead battery as long as you don't need headlights and you don't stall at a stoplight.

There's something to be said for barebones simplicity, I suppose. It doesn't burn oil, amazingly. Hard, beige, flimsy, and fragile plastic interior. Engine feels ready for a rebuild at , miles. That's Wankel Rotary Rebuild time, not four-cylinder rebuild. It has been one of the best cars I have ever owned. Not only do I get good gas mileage for an older car, about 30 miles to the gallon, but the car is well made, handles easily, and I have not really had any engine problems in almost 20 years.

The car is compact with a great turning radius, yet it is a wagon and has a lot of storage room. The rear seat is a split version and both can be dropped to add space to the hatchback cargo area. I am able to store my bicycle for easy travel and if I put the passenger seat down as well, I can slide my sit-a-top kayak in for travel. The car has a roof rack but I find the cargo area easier.

I have never had any real wear or rot on the vehicle until this past year I purchased my Suzuki Esteem as a pre-model with only about 5, miles on the car. I have never had any real wear or rot on the vehicle until this past year when the support bar between the two front wheels rotted. I think the part was called a "K-Bar" and I find out that a lot of the models from the same year had the exact same problem but that there was never a recall. Unfortunately Suzuki is now out of business so my only alternative was to find a used part online and have that installed, which I did.

I don't know how much longer the body will hold up as I live on Cape Cod and the salt air does a job on cars, but the engine runs like a top and I can only pray it holds on for me for a few more years.
